On June 28th OACS wrote each of the three main political parties in Ontario and asked the following question:
What is the policy of [your] party with respect to government support for Christian schools?
We have received no response from the Liberal party. (8/27/2007)
We received the following response from the NDP (7/19/2007):
"Parents who choose to educate their children outside the existing public system have every right to do so and we respect that choice – but it is a private choice and we do not believe that the public should provide funding to private schools. "
The Ontario PC party referred us to John Tory’s proposal (April, 2007):“…we are committed to creating an opportunity for non-Catholic, faith-based schools to choose to join our publicly funded education system the same way Catholic schools have already done.”
OACS is optimistic about Mr. Tory’s proposal. We have no difficulty with the three principles on which the policy will be based, and we have every confidence of being involved at the highest levels when the details will be decided. |
