Rhema Christian School showed its support and community spirit through its participation in the Peterborough Dragon Boat Festival on June 9.

The team of 20 paddlers and one drummer comprised of parents, staff members, graduates and friends of the school who desire to reflect the love and compassion of Jesus Christ for people in the Peterborough community.

“We really feel that that’s important to give back to our community so this is how we do that,” says team captain and Rhema kindergarten teacher Cheryl Herder.

She notes participating in the event creates some visibility for the school in the community while being role models both in giving back to the community and for the students.

“It’s a leading example of servant hood in the community,” says Herder.

Called Rhema Reflections, the team raised more than $3,500 towards the Peterborough Regional Health Centre’s Breast Assessment Centre. This is the ninth year Rhema has taken part.

The team won in its mixed educational division, giving it the chance to compete in the finals. It finished fourth out of more than 80 teams.
