Hosts building dedication, ribbon cutting ceremony
Friday June 11, 2010 -- Jennifer Higgs
Ottawa Christian School (OCS) is inviting community members to celebrate this evening (June 11) at the official opening of its new school, with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony starting at 6:30 p.m.
The new 38,000 square-foot school is located at 255 Tartan Drive in Barrhaven, and has 15 classrooms as well as a music room, science room and full size gym.
As the school enters its 44th year, advancement co-ordinator Virginia Dawson says the event is an opportunity to celebrate with people who have been a part of OCS, as well as other Christian schools and the community of Barrhaven.
Barrhaven city councillor Jan Harder will be in attendance and present the school with a certificate.
Following the ceremony there will be refreshments and a building tour.
“While the future is not ours to tell, we know that the Lord has blessed OCS in the past and continues to provide for our needs in ways that we couldn’t have imagined. We look forward to educating future generations of children in our new home,” principal Paul Triemstra says in a press release.
The school, costing more than six million dollars, was built on budget and on time.
Triemstra says, “the Lord has blessed this community with
tremendous opportunities, a very generous support community and a highly qualified new facilities committee.”
It was exactly a year ago, on June 11, 2009, that OCS held its groundbreaking ceremony.
OCS attracts families from all over Ottawa and offers extended busing services. New this fall the school will be offering before and after school programs.
There will be open houses at the new location June 14 and 15, from 7-8:30 p.m. Those interested to reserve a tour can contact info(at)ocschool.org or call 613-722-5836.
